BG’s Romanian anniversary

Growing success for 15 years

It’s time to pat ourselves on the back. After all, it’s been 15 years since BG-Graspointner began work in Romania and we have sown the seeds of success with our own production site and plenty of pragmatism.

On course for success: BG-Graspointner Romania.

Off to a great start in Eastern Europe

In 2005, we started working with a Romanian company specializing in the construction of footpaths. We quickly recognized the potential of our partner’s production sites – which turned out to be a valuable driver of growth and profitability. This meant that BG-Graspointner was not only able to sell products in Romania, but to manufacture them there as well. Today we are capable of producing almost our entire portfolio in Romania, including our BG-CLASSIC range as well as the BG-FILCOTEN, BG-ROAD and BG-RAIL product series. And we are also able to take our customers’ special requests into account.

In the first six years BG-Graspointner tripled its sales and doubled the number of employeesin Romania. The country’s location is a particular strategic advantage. From the production site in Ghioroc, Arad, we can cater to the domestic market and the group’s associate companies in the surrounding European countries.

Technical consultants are key

Ten years ago, Dan Goraneanu was appointed Managing Director of
BG-Graspointner Romania. He feels that the company’s personnel structure and philosophy largely contribute to its success.

In Romania, technical consultants are involved in a project from the start. It is their job to meet customers as equal partners and to offer them the most suitable technical solutions for their project.

Our technical consultants know the challenges and details of every project and they know what is important when it comes to drainage. . Tailor-made solutions for complicated construction projects can be developed – even at a moment’s notice. It the consultant’s job to complement the planner’s work by giving valuable input and contributing to the successful execution.

Dan Goraneanu had these words to say about the relationship between a company and its customers:

The project IS the customer. Only those who understand this will be successful.

To Goraneanu, it’s all about the big picture. And it is this sense of responsibility that leads to successful projects in Romania.

Giving back

A company’s economic success owes some form of gratitude to the community. For BG-Graspointner, Romania, it is important to give back to the locals. We did it by helping build a playground. The city provided the space and our colleagues in Romania selected the play structures. They assembled them during a downpour. They were soaking wet, but highly motivated. After all, you don’t always have to sell drainage systems to be rewarded for your hard work; sometimes it is enough just to see the smile on a child’s face.

The new office is a looker

BG’s success has also reflected in the workplace. In 2017, the 40 sqm office space was bursting at the seams and BG-Graspointner Romania moved to a new 120 sqm. office. Since then, there has been more room for work, private gatherings, meetings with customers and partners, including multimedia equipment, and a small kitchen. All of the rooms are decorated in the gray corporate designand pictures on the walls feature important reference projects - including a large BG-Graspointner logo. Productivity and creativity go hand in hand, and the welcoming atmosphere of the new office makes working there more fun.

Romania embraces BG’s brand essence

BG-Graspointner Romania has joined us on our path to a greener future. In 2015, the site optimized costs and implemented ecological measures like switching lighting to LED and choosing renewable energy providers.

Bumps in the road

BG-Graspointner Romania has accomplished a great number of reference projects, including more than ten public and military airports, logistics centers and port facilities, roads and highways, industrial sites, supermarket parking, office buildings, shopping malls, gas stations and many more.

While this sounds like a success story, they still ran into some setbacks along the way. Dan Goraneanu reminisces: “A few years ago we were working on a parking lot. During the project, the customer suddenly reordered all of the channels even though they had already been shipped and delivered. It turned out that the channels had already been installed, but were completely covered with asphalt during a night shift and were no longer usable.”
Nobody’s perfect. We look forward to the next 15 years with our Romanian colleagues.

And if you are looking for drainage solutions for your project, we are happy to help.
