BG’s Romanian anniversary

Growing success for 15 years

It’s time to congratulate ourselves. After all, it’s been 15 years since BG-Graspointner took up work in Romania and we sowed the seeds of success with our own production site and plenty of pragmatism.

On course for success for 15 years: BG-Graspointner Romania.

Off to a great start in Eastern Europe

In 2005, we started working with a Romanian company specializing in the construction of footpaths by way of a joint venture. We quickly recognized the potential of our partner’s production sites, which turned out to be a valuable driver of growth and profitability. This meant that BG-Graspointner was not only able to sell products in Romania, but to manufacture them there as well. Today we are capable of producing almost our entire portfolio. in Romania, which includes our BG-CLASSIC range as well as the BG-FILCOTEN, BG-ROAD and BG-RAIL product series. And we are also able to take our customers’ special requests into account.

In the first six years BG-Graspointner tripled its sales and doubled the number of employeesin Romania. The country’s location is a particular strategic advantage. From the production site in Ghioroc, Arad, we can cater to the domestic market and the group’s associate companies in the surrounding European countries.

Technical consultants are key

Ten years ago, Dan Goraneanu was appointed Managing Director of
BG-Graspointner Romania. To him, the company’s personnel structure and its philosophy largely contribute to its success:

In Romania, technical consultants are involved in the projects from the start. It is their job to meet customers as equal partners and to offer them the most suitable technical solutions for their construction project.

Our technical consultants know the challenges and details of every project and what’s important when it comes to drainage. And they develop tailor-made solutions for complicated construction projects – also at short notice. It is their job to complement the planner’s work by giving valuable input on the project and contributing to the successful implementation.

Dan Goraneanu on the special relationship between the company and its customers:

The project is the customer. And only those who understand this will be successful.

To Goraneanu, it’s all about the big picture. And it is this sense of responsibility exceeding the matters of the company that enables outstanding projects in Romania.

Giving back

A company’s economic success is always also owed to the community. For BG-Graspointner Romania it is important to give back to the locals, for example by building a playground. For this particular project, the city provided the space and our colleagues in Romania selected the play structures. And then they assembled them during a downpour – soaking wet but highly motivated. After all, you don’t always have to sell drainage systems to be rewarded for your hard work. Sometimes it’s enough to see the smile on a child’s face.

The new office is a looker

The company’s success was also reflected in the workplace itself. In 2017, the 40 sqm office space was bursting at the seams and so BG-Graspointner Romania moved to a new 120 sqm. office. Ever since, there has been more room for work, for private gatherings and for meetings with customers and partners, including multimedia equipment. And, of course, all of the rooms are decorated in the gray corporate design. The pictures on the walls feature important reference projects – and, of course, a large BG-Graspointner logo. A small kitchen was also installed. And since productivity and creativity go hand in hand, the welcoming atmosphere of the new office also makes work more fun.

Romania embraces BG’s brand essence

BG-Graspointner Romania has joined us on our path to a greener future. As an example, in 2015, the site optimized costs and implemented ecological measures such as switching the entire lighting to LED and choosing renewable energy providers.

Were there any bumps in the road?

BG-Graspointner Romania has accomplished a great number of reference projects, including more than ten public and military airports, logistics centers and port facilities, roads and highways, industrial sites, supermarket parking, office buildings, shopping malls, gas stations and many more.

That sounds like a great success story, but did they run into any problems along the way? Dan Goraneanu reminisces: “A few years back we were working on a car park. During the project the customer suddenly reordered all of the channels even though we had already shipped them, and they had arrived. It turned out that the initial channels had already been installed but they were completely covered with asphalt during a night shift under time pressure and therefore were no longer usable.”
Nobody’s perfect… But we are looking forward to the next 15 years with our Romanian colleagues.

And if you are looking for drainage solutions for your project,
we are happy to help.
